Fast Start Key to win over Visalia

Real San Jose Soccer Club

Real San Jose got off to a fast start by scoring three first-half goals in a home victory over the Visalia Golden Bears at PAL Stadium on April 21. RSJ is now unbeaten in three matches since the start of the 2018 UPSL spring season.

Nick Vargas put Real San Jose on the scoreboard six minutes into the match. The goal started with a corner kick from Hoang Pham that Vargas headed on goal. The Visalia keeper made the save and the ball flew to Facundo Benitez who headed to the back post. The ball bounced back to Vargas who tapped it in from close range.

RSJ continued the early dominance and scored again Just two minutes later. This time Gustavo Vargas played a defense splitting pass to Benitez who beat the keeper with a low shot. That would be all the scoring that RSJ would need in the match but they added one more before halftime. In the 40th minute, Pham took a free kick from inside the RSJ half and found Vargas with just the keeper to beat. The tricky star forward from Yerba Buena high school took full advantage and deftly scored.

Visalia tried to fight back at the start of the second half and were rewarded with a goal from a penalty kick. Benitez seemed to accidentally bump into an opponent who fell to the ground. The referee immediately pointed to the spot much to the confusion of the RSJ defenders. Still, the penalty was converted but that was all Visalia would get on the night.

Real San Jose returns to action next week as they host the Redding Royals in a UPSL regular-season match on April 28, kick off at 6:45 PM.
