Second Half Comeback Earns Road Draw

Real San Jose Soccer Club

Real San Jose scored two second-half goals to earn an exciting draw in San Leandro on April 14 in regular-season UPSL play. Borja Moya and Nick Vargas each earned their first goals of the season.

San Leandro United got off to a surprising lead in just the third minute of the game when a midfield turnover resulted in a long-range goal that caught RSJ goalkeeper Jonathan Arellano too far off his line. Things did not go better for our RSJ as the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Arellano made up for the first goal by making a big save diving to his left. United kept the pressure up and were finally up a deserved to goal lead.

Halftime could not have come to soon for the lackluster our RSJ squad.

The break did RSJ a world of good as they quickly turned everything around. Ousman Jaiteh set the tone for what would be a thrilling second half performance by the entire RSJ squad. After dispatching his defender on the right wing he sent in a dangerous cross that ended with Borja Moya slamming the ball home from close range. San Jose pressed the attack but just couldn't find the tying goal.

The final stages of the match became an end-to-end affair with both sides narrowly missing the mark. Finally, one of the many RSJ corner kicks landed on the foot of Nick Vargas who slotted the ball in from 10 yards. Nick goal ended what must've been a frustrating night for Angel Herredia who had been sending in dangerous crosses all night.

In all, this match turned out to be a point earned.

Real San Jose returns to PAL Stadium on April 21 as a play host to the Visalia Golden Bears at PAL Stadium. Kick off is set for 6:45 PM.
