This was Avalos’ second selection to the NPSL Pro Combine and the first for Rodriguez. Both players were part of championship teams at Mount Pleasant high school in East San Jose and have received numerous all-league awards. Most notably Avalos was named the 2013 Mount Hamilton Division Most Valuable Player, and Rodriguez was named to the 2014 Mercury News Central Coast Section 1st team. Each player moved on to RSJ after graduation with Avalos continuing his goalscoring ways and Rodriguez shutting down opponents.
“The NPSL combine was a very pleasant experience because it gave me the chance to showcase my talent. It was fun being with teammates, and the staff and organizers all wanted us to succeed. It is an experience I will remember,” said Avalos.
Rodriguez also reflected on the experience. “It was a great experience participating in this year NPSL combine. I got to play with and against great players. Every year the NPSL grows more. I hope great things come to the NPSL and players this year.”
Real San Jose begins its 10th NPSL season with two road games before starting the home season the weekend of April 2 at a site to be determined.
